#4133 Bronze Dachshunds – Emmanuel Fremiet – Barbedienne
A good Barbedienne cast of Emmanuel Fremiet's (1824-1910) portrayal of 'Ravagout' and 'Ravageole', pets of Napoleon lll, and by all accounts very much loved.
Linked together at the collar, Ravageot seated and alert, Ravageole with her head down, exhibiting curiosity toward a snail wending its inimitable way at her feet, the compactness and contrast of form make the pair interesting to view from all angles and the inclusion of the tiny snail adds a touch of humour.
Fremiet’s presentation of Napoleon's dog and bitch enjoyed immense popularity, as this later numbered cast indicates.
