#3875 Bronze seated Great Dane - H. PEYROL
Superb model of a powerful Great Dane dog, well muscled and sitting with paws almost aligned forming a compact and delightful composition.
The bronze bears the signature: H. PEYROL (Francois Auguste Hippolyte Peyrol. 1856-1929) better known for his association with the BONHEUR family as husband to Rosa’s sister, Juliette, and for casting bronzes for Rosa and brother Isadore. Very little of Peyrol’s own sculture is seen today although he was known for producing Animalier subjects, specialising in domestic animals. It is pleasing to find a sturdy bronze subject such as this bearing his name as creator, as opposed to that of the ‘founder’.
Rich brown patina showing wear to shoulder and cheek, perhaps over the years this is where the beast has been lovingly stroked.
Signed. H. PEYROL
