#2826 'Phileas Fogg' - Bernhard Bloch Tobacco Jar.
A polychrome painted terracotta tobacco jar modelled as Jules Verne’s colourful character, Phileas Fogg, from his book, ‘Around the World in Eighty Days’. (Jules Verne 1828-1905, a French writer possessing an extraordinary imagination resulting in semi-scientific adventure stories, still very popular today)
Dressed in chequered coat, matching trousers, a black ‘topper’ and sporting huge side-whiskers, Fogg sits regally on a tree-stump, one hand on the handle of his umbrella, the other holding a book.
Good original paint.
Restoration to neck.
Maker: Bernhard Bloch. Marked: BB
Circa 1890
Size: 13” (33cm) high.
